A client is having a problem where the rdp connection over vpn is really slow to the point of being unusable. However if they connect rdp over the internet without the vpn its fine. Dont think its on the clients end as i have tested on multiple machines with the same problem. Ill have a look at the error logs.
By default it offers Highest quality - that requires a lot of BW. Just by reducing quality to lower you can improve expirience. If they are using some asymetric connection like ADSL, you need to make sure that other outgoing traffic has not eaten the BW. What speed connection do they have? How many concurrent users connecting? VPN will add a lot more overhead than just RDP, could they be maxing uplink bandwidth from the main site? Routing could still be a bit of an issue as well, but at the main site not at the client end, especially if it happens on all clients.
What type of VPN are they using? I've seen that slow things down significant;y as well. Be aware RDP can be trashed by MTU issues - usually it stops you getting to the desktop though, so might not be the case here. Could be that your VPN router is overloaded. Can you check the processor to see if it's running wide open?
What type of VPN tech are you using? MS Native? IPSec are faster. Faster VPN gear will be important. VPN adds overhead and latency, so things will be slower.
Please help me anyone, we ve the same issue, while we try work on remote RDP through VPN, its very slow performance, and my boss is very anger, please give me a resolution. After the automatic updates of windows 10 I am experience very slow performance slow graphic update, slow scrolling on the remote desktop client connecting to Windows 7 remote computers. Before the updates the graphic performance when using the remote desktop was excellent. These errors happens in 2 local computers with windows 10, and connecting to 2 different remote computers with windows 7. I have enabled all settings but it doesn't show that UDP is enabled in conn. Since version OS Build My primary workstation is our only Windows 10 machine. As of about two days ago, RDP performance on it has been just terrible, so much so that I cannot use the PC when I remote in from home.
It is just incredibly slow to respond, if it ever does. Rebooting does nothing. The reason I thought the Anniversary Update might be the culprit is because I've heard of so many issues it's caused, plus I've noticed some minor aesthetic changes on my workstation in the past few days.
No other machine on our domain have this RDP lag issue. How can I troubleshoot and fix this? Thank you!Orange font
Windows 7 must have SP1 and the latest updates. Check the RDP Client version to see if it is supported. Remote Desktop Protocol. I ask because the anniversary updated definitely changes a few aesthetic things, so it sounds like you are on anniversary to me. Change the remote desktop settings resolution color depth to use 16 bits and slow connections see screen shots below:. Also check the wireless connectivity or network connectivity at home to check if you are using more bandwidth than usual.
So I'm pretty sure the update is what broke RDP, question is, what will fix it? Seems like this would be a pretty big deal, right? I uninstalled the last 2 updates and that looks to have fixed it. Wish I'd made note of the KB number, but I just ripped them out and rebooted.
My machine is a Dell Optiplexif that makes any difference for anyone else who may be having this issue. Also, we use an RD Gateway server to remote in.

By neufuseFebruary 8, in Windows. Recently I've noticed a lot of compression artifacts like you get with variable bitrate video, resolution drops, lots of blockyness etc until it fills in the missing pieceslag, and just general speed issues with RDP. This just started recently, and not sure why. This is happening on an internal LAN so it's not like the internet is in the way. Now there is significant lag, sometimes the connection just jams due to the high bit rate of 4K video, etc.
Not sure where to start looking into this one Now, to add to this Any recent OS updates? What about the Unifi POE switch? What are the OS's? Have you bypassed the switch I.
Just random thoughts. The switch auto updates a little bit after they put new firmwares out, OS's are kept up to date with the most recent patches I'm not seeing this issue on a different network of systems I tested it on, just this one network.
All systems are running windows 10 which is when I started to notice this was after came out, but not sure if that was the root cause or something else since I don't see this same issue on on another separate network. I don't appear to be, and the switch at least isn't seeing any packet loss. UDP streams work fine and no shuddering or jamming or reduced image quality. Now it's very odd that a low speed 50Mbit VPN connection to work works perfectly but a 1Gbps connection between two systems on the same switch has issues.
Have you tried swapping out the Ubiquiti switch with something "dumber"? I've seen some weird traffic issues with Ubiquiti products. I had a USG that refused to do full speed on my 1gig connection, after googling and googling their support forums I found enough tweaks to get about down on a consistent basis.
When I stopped using it an went back to pfsense, I was getting my usual mbit down. Never could figure out what the problem was. Some people reported the same things, while others never had an issue. Performance also varied widely on different software revisions. I've gone back to only having Unifi Access Points and that's it, don't trust any of their other products to perform consistently. Whenever the next wifi revision enters mainstream, I'll be hard pressed to continue using them.
They're slipping a bit. Yeah I never went to the USG, not feature complete or fast enough I have higher end versions of Microtik Cloud core routers with fiber Wonder what triggers it? I had it installed and unfortunately still see the issues in the latest build.
I don't know what they "fixed" in the march patches but all ti seemed to do is make the issue worse. I have a co-worker that had hell with rdp reliably working on and removing Zoho Assist fixed it.Asked by nbcasey1. Okay, I have scoured the internet and these forums.
Although I do see some similar topics, I can't find anything specific. Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated. Citrix Client version is The issues that we have are performance related. It is very choppy and laggy when connecting to Windows 7 machines. When connecting to Windows XP machines, the performance seems fine. On all of the servers that the application is published on, the performance settings are set to "best performance".
The application itself has all unnecessary channels disabled i. On the windows 7 desktops that we are connecting to, the aero features are disabled.
This helped, but still has not solved the issues completely. Since the Windows XP computers seem to be more responsive, it definitely seems that the problem lies on the Windows 7 workstations and not the actual published application or Citrix servers themselves.
Has anyone else ran into this issue? Are there other settings that would help increase performance? Hi, I would check that the versions of RDP installed are similar on the Server and the client, does this improve performance? Cheers, Ryan. Thanks for the response, Ryan.Hikvision lpr sdk
All of the machines that I have been testing have the 6. I did have to upgrade the servers to that version, as well as the Windows XP computers. I had hoped that was causing the issue, but it doesn't seem to have helped. How are you launching the RDP from the command line? Hi I am also facing the same issue. I tried to reduce the color depth of published apps to and the performance is good, but the session looks very dull. On the Win 7 PC: 1. Right Click your Desktop 2.

Dark Mode Beta - help us root out low-contrast and un-converted bits.I have a windows 10 pro laptop with remote desktop setup allow remote connections to this computer. I remote into the laptop from a PC. I just noticed that when the laptop display is turned off set to turn off after 10minsthere is delay in keystrokes and mouse movements when the laptop is accessed remotely.
When I wake up the laptop screen by pressing a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse, the delay is gone when accessing the laptop remotely until the laptop screen goes off again in 10mins. How do we fix this issue? The current workaround is to set the 'turn off the display' to 'never'.

The lagging is gone once I wake up the laptop screen by pressing a key on the keyboard or touching the touch pad but it will come back once it goes to sleep again.
Sorry, I cannot reproduce your issue on my environment. It is best to test from a clean install so you know there can't be anything else that could be causing this problem:.Origin launch options apex
I do really cannot reproduce this issue on my lab machines. Have you encounter this issue on the same laptop when you install another version of Windows ever? As soon as the screen of the Surface Pro 4 turns off the keyboard and mouse input in the remote desktop session on the Surface Pro 4 are lagging behind.
If you make the screen of the Surface Pro 4 turn on again press a key on the surface type cover for examplethe remote desktop session running on it responds to user input fast again. Workaround is to keep the screen of the Surface Pro 4 turned on. Either by disabling screen sleep, or setting it to a value of 1 hour and touch a key on the Surface Type cover once an hour. The following thread describes the same problem as this thread. And it can also be fixed by preventing screen sleep on the Surface Pro.
I found the cause of this problem. Via remote desktop I can do whatever typing, working, compiling - the surface pro 4 never gets out of "Connected Standby" and the UI is lagging. As soon as I make the screen wake up by pressing any key on the type cover connected to the surface pro 4, so that the login screen appears, the system gets out of "Connected Standby".
I had hoped that the "Creators Update" would have fixed this, but nope, same problem. Same solution - disable "Connected Standby". You have to use "Hibernate" instead of "Sleep" then and waking up from "Hibernate" can take a few seconds but for me that is ok. Same problem here, since version I experience slow response on keyboard and mouse by RD connection. I have a Surface Pro 1 tablet. I have similar issues on my surface pro 3 connected with surface dock, and remote access by RDP outside from another windows 10, when screen off, the response from keyboard mouse response will significantly slow and lag.
I tried two different source machines I'm connecting from, one is Windows 8. The behavior occurs on both. It doesn't matter what options I select in the Remote Desktop "Experience" connectivity section. Yeah, its been a problem for a while. I tried this registry option and it doesn't work. But here is what I observed. Overall, there is a keyboard drag when over RDP. The first 32 bit one was DOS based, console.
