A client is having a problem where the rdp connection over vpn is really slow to the point of being unusable. However if they connect rdp over the internet without the vpn its fine. Dont think its on the clients end as i have tested on multiple machines with the same problem. Ill have a look at the error logs.

By default it offers Highest quality - that requires a lot of BW. Just by reducing quality to lower you can improve expirience. If they are using some asymetric connection like ADSL, you need to make sure that other outgoing traffic has not eaten the BW. What speed connection do they have? How many concurrent users connecting? VPN will add a lot more overhead than just RDP, could they be maxing uplink bandwidth from the main site? Routing could still be a bit of an issue as well, but at the main site not at the client end, especially if it happens on all clients.

What type of VPN are they using? I've seen that slow things down significant;y as well. Be aware RDP can be trashed by MTU issues - usually it stops you getting to the desktop though, so might not be the case here. Could be that your VPN router is overloaded. Can you check the processor to see if it's running wide open?

What type of VPN tech are you using? MS Native? IPSec are faster. Faster VPN gear will be important. VPN adds overhead and latency, so things will be slower.

After the automatic updates of windows 10 I am experience very slow performance slow graphic update, slow scrolling on the remote desktop client connecting to Windows 7 remote computers. Before the updates the graphic performance when using the remote desktop was excellent. These errors happens in 2 local computers with windows 10, and connecting to 2 different remote computers with windows 7. The status of the connection says: "The quality of the connection to the remote computer is excellent and UDP is enabled".

I have enabled all settings but it doesn't show that UDP is enabled in conn. Since version OS Build My primary workstation is our only Windows 10 machine. As of about two days ago, RDP performance on it has been just terrible, so much so that I cannot use the PC when I remote in from home.

It is just incredibly slow to respond, if it ever does. Rebooting does nothing. The reason I thought the Anniversary Update might be the culprit is because I've heard of so many issues it's caused, plus I've noticed some minor aesthetic changes on my workstation in the past few days.

No other machine on our domain have this RDP lag issue. How can I troubleshoot and fix this? Thank you!

Just random thoughts. The switch auto updates a little bit after they put new firmwares out, OS's are kept up to date with the most recent patches I'm not seeing this issue on a different network of systems I tested it on, just this one network.

All systems are running windows 10 which is when I started to notice this was after came out, but not sure if that was the root cause or something else since I don't see this same issue on on another separate network. I don't appear to be, and the switch at least isn't seeing any packet loss. UDP streams work fine and no shuddering or jamming or reduced image quality. Now it's very odd that a low speed 50Mbit VPN connection to work works perfectly but a 1Gbps connection between two systems on the same switch has issues.

Have you tried swapping out the Ubiquiti switch with something "dumber"? I've seen some weird traffic issues with Ubiquiti products. I had a USG that refused to do full speed on my 1gig connection, after googling and googling their support forums I found enough tweaks to get about down on a consistent basis.

When I stopped using it an went back to pfsense, I was getting my usual mbit down. Never could figure out what the problem was. Some people reported the same things, while others never had an issue. I just noticed that when the laptop display is turned off set to turn off after 10minsthere is delay in keystrokes and mouse movements when the laptop is accessed remotely.

When I wake up the laptop screen by pressing a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse, the delay is gone when accessing the laptop remotely until the laptop screen goes off again in 10mins. How do we fix this issue? The current workaround is to set the 'turn off the display' to 'never'.

I do really cannot reproduce this issue on my lab machines. Have you encounter this issue on the same laptop when you install another version of Windows ever? As soon as the screen of the Surface Pro 4 turns off the keyboard and mouse input in the remote desktop session on the Surface Pro 4 are lagging behind.

If you make the screen of the Surface Pro 4 turn on again press a key on the surface type cover for examplethe remote desktop session running on it responds to user input fast again. Workaround is to keep the screen of the Surface Pro 4 turned on. Either by disabling screen sleep, or setting it to a value of 1 hour and touch a key on the Surface Type cover once an hour. The following thread describes the same problem as this thread. And it can also be fixed by preventing screen sleep on the Surface Pro.

I found the cause of this problem. Via remote desktop I can do whatever typing, working, compiling - the surface pro 4 never gets out of "Connected Standby" and the UI is lagging. As soon as I make the screen wake up by pressing any key on the type cover connected to the surface pro 4, so that the login screen appears, the system gets out of "Connected Standby".

I had hoped that the "Creators Update" would have fixed this, but nope, same problem. Same solution - disable "Connected Standby". You have to use "Hibernate" instead of "Sleep" then and waking up from "Hibernate" can take a few seconds but for me that is ok.
